The Garden of Cosmic Speculation is one of the most original and important gardens of the 21st century, created by the internationally celebrated architectural critic and designer Charles Jencks.
Covering thirty acres in the Borders area of Scotland, The Garden of Cosmic Speculation is conceived as a place to explore certain fundamental aspects of the universe. What are atoms made of and how should we conceive of them? How does DNA make up a living organism? Charles Jencks has created a series of new, expansive, visual metaphors that challenge misleading and frequently misunderstood concepts such as the 'Big Bang' and the 'Selfish Gene'. We are delighted to welcome Charles Jencks to the Festival.
Stephen Goss's exciting new composition for Gemini moves through the physical space of Jencks' garden exploring its sensuous surface in rich colours and varied musical styles while exploiting its underlying theoretical basis to generate the musical material.
According to quantum field theory, when the universe is reduced to a
single essence it may turn out to be a co-ordinated symphony of vibrating
energy, and its laws would be those of harmonic vibrations. Charles
Jencks

Jashn - E - Bahar is an innovative and exciting collaboration between Triveni (Indian) and Muraldo (Afro-Caribbean) dance companies. The programme, led by Kathak master, Guru Pratap Pawar, is a combination of classical north Indian dance, folk dances from across India, dynamic Afro-Caribbean calypso and contemporary dance. Colourful, costumed dancers perform to a musical score featuring on-stage Tabla, Sitar and vocals from the Indian sub-continent and West African and Caribbean drumming. The dance sequences allow for both traditional as well as contemporary influences, while at the same time allowing these two distinct dance genres to work separately as well as with one another in a unique and extraordinary show.
