Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment photoOrchestra of the Age of Enlightenment

Event number: 31

Holy Trinity Church, 7.30pm

£20 full, £17 senior citizens, £5 concessions

Few who have heard them would argue against the assertion that the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is the finest period-style orchestra in the land. But after this magnificent concert I'd go further. The OAE is quite possibly the finest orchestra in the land, period instrument or no, and thus one of the finest in the world. London Evening Standard

The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment play with their usual flair and virtuosity. The Guardian

Corelli Concerto grosso, Op 6 No4 in D
Locatelli Concerto grosso, Op 7 No 6 in Eb Il pianto d'Arianna
Vivaldi Concerto for four violins, Op 3 in B minor
Concerto for two violins and cello, Op 3 in D minor
Cello concerto in A minor
Geminiani Concerto grosso No 12 in D minor La Folia

The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, one of the world's leading period instrument ensembles, presents a concert which is a feast of the Baroque. Alongside music from Corelli and Vivaldi is Geminiani's Concerto grosso No.12 La Folia (Madness), in which stately elegance and whirlwind energy collide. The charismatic Maggie Faultless is soloist and director in this breathtaking Festival programme celebrating OAE's first visit to Guildford.
